In 1 John 2:16 we read about the three main sins of life.
• Lust of the flesh
• Lust of the eyes
• Pride of life
These are the main categories of sin, from which all other
subcategories of sin derive.
Not that I am being sin conscience, or anything like that. Its just if
we know, or are informed we won’t be ignorant to any of the schemes of
the devil.
Remember that Jesus was tempted by the devil on these same three points.
Matthew 4:1-9
• Lust of the flesh, after he (Jesus) had fasted forty days, the
devil said turn these stones into bread.
• Lust of the eyes, then the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and
showed him all the kingdoms of the world.
• Pride of life, if thou be the son of God, jump down off of this
high place, for God shall give his angles charge over you.
The reason these are the main sin categories is because we are a three
part being.
Spirit, soul, and body.
The sin of pride, affects our spirit.
The sin of lust of the eyes, affects our soul.
Lastly, the sin of lust of the flesh, affects our bodies.
Please refer to the teaching titled, First Things First, as it refers
to protecting ourselves by the armor of God.
My desire is to gird up our loins with truth, and polish up our shield
so that we as members of Jesus’ body will be able to stand, and not
fall, live and not die. For greater is the Most High on the inside of
us, and there be more with us than there are against us.
Remember when Jesus was tempted by the devil, His weapon of choice to
drive the devil away was the word of God.
And He said, for it is written, thou shall not tempt the Lord your God.
So get to know the word of God, like the Gatorade commercial says, is
it in you?
If its not in us, then we won’t have anything to draw from when the
enemy comes to tempt us.
The sword of the spirit is the word of God.
Be in the Lord and the power of His might.
Lean not to your own reasonings,
Trust the Lord, and in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will
direct your steps.
